Uninstalled Java but it still shows up in Terminal

MacBook Air Intel 2017.

MacOS Monterey 12.7.1

I had tried to uninstall this jdk and wanna install the lower version(8 - 17), But it always showing me 21.0.2.

However, when I typed "java --version" on the Terminal to see whether I really uninstalled Java or not, I saw this:

openjdk version "21.0.2" 2024-01-16

OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 21.0.2+13-58)

OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 21.0.2+13-58, mixed mode, sharing).

I have Java 8 Update 401 (latest JRE from January) installed, and the Terminal is unable to notice any versioning on that. Compiled apps for Mac that were built in Java from other developers do not even need this, as those would their JRE built-in.

Java 21.x is about the development kit (JDK), not the runtime VM for end user java apps.

Select older versions are still maintained for special clients with a set retirement date, but only v21 is current and supported for development at this time. Java version history - Wikipedia
