Podcasts show up hours late

I have an iPhone 11 running iOS 17.3.1 (currently the latest)

Lately more and more podcasts are arriving late. I have had days where nothing arrived between 10am and around 5pm. When they arrive the podcasts are marked with release times like 9hrs, 5hrs, etc. How can that be? I’m on very reliable wifi and the settings are correct for immediate delivery - which happens most days except when it inexplicably doesn’t. Help?
