USB-C Earpods not working with iPadPro 4th generation 2020

I recently purchased the USB-C Earpod to use for phone calls on my iPhone 15 and other USB-c enabled devices. It works perfectly fine on my phone and also my Lenovo laptop; however, when I tried to use it on my iPad Pro, the audio continues to play through the iPad speakers. I tried to restart my iPad and ensured the software is updated, but it still does not function. Does anyone have an explanation or a workaround ? According to Apple, the two should be compatible. TYIA.
