Improve Mac performance

I'm using a MacBook Pro 2017 - i7 - 16 GM Ram, and I'm looking to improve its performance of it. Some services I'm using require a lot of power and it restart the webpages out of nowhere. I've heard that I should clear our my storage to improve the power. I've looked into it and it seems that my storage is split in 2? Here is the screenshots, looking for a bit of guidance on what to do to unite the storage in one and keep using macOs Monterey since the newest macos slow down my mac a lot:

you are seeing the APFS crypto-locked system Volume as a separate Volume. that all looks completely ordinary and is no cause for alarm. You can't put them back together, it a feature of modern MacOS.

Good thing you stopped by here before doing anything rash. That advice is completely outdated nonsense.

By far the easiest way to cause poor performance, instability, overheating and crashing is to install ANY third-party speeder-uppers, Cleaners, Optimizers, or Virus scanners. or a VPN that you installed yourself. The main reason is that they are relentless in scanning your files, non-stop, looking for virus-like patterns in Everything. When completed, they do it all again.

¿are you running any of those?

If you want a data-driven evaluation in this setting where we can neither see nor touch your computer, please post an EtreCheck report. We can quickly and within the limitations of these forums help you determine what issues are at play without our playing a protracted game of "20 Questions" with you that could go on for days.

EtreCheck Pro is available here:

The free version will do nicely for this purpose, although the app is worthy of our financial support.

We can see hard data about drive performance, software issues and interferences, and RAM usage. Etrecheck is the development of a long-serving and trusted ASC contributor. It is a reporting app, not a "fix-it” app, expressly for displaying information in these forums to help us help you remotely. It will not reveal any personal or secure information.

Here are a few thoughts -

  1. Your storage is 250GB shared by the three volumes Macintosh HD, Macintosh HD-Data & Update. The operating system takes care of how the disk space is shared among them.
  2. Your 2017 MBP is the oldest of the MBP models that are compatible with Ventura. I'd say that's probably one of the reasons Ventura isn't a great performer on it.
  3. Hard to tell what you might do to improve performance. How about if you download & run Etrecheck and post a copy of the report here. It will provide info about your system that may point to some areas for improvement
  4. 100GB is good enough for 'optimal performance' on your MBP. But it wouldn't hurt to move whatever data you can to an external drive.

Thank you. No, I don't. I keep my MacBook pretty clean from unnecessary apps.

  1. Does this mean that my storage is 250 GB or 512 Gm (split in 2)?
  2. Why does installing macOS Ventura slow down my MacBook so much even though it fits the requirements of the macOS Ventura?
  3. Is there anything I can do to improve the performance of my current Mac before I consider selling it and buying a new one?
  4. Is 100 GB of free storage enough for optimal performance of my mac or should I get an external drive and transfer everything to it?

Thanks in advance
