MacBook Air freezes momentarily

Hi. I have a 2020 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM and OS Catalina. I've had no issues until now. The past couple of weeks it's been inexplicably freezing for 5-10 seconds at a time, during which time keyboard, trackpad and (bluetooth) mouse are unresponsive. I mainly use low intensive software like Word, Adobe Reader and sometimes it happens when I'm online writing or scrolling through emails. After the freeze, the computer resumes normal activity. I'm concerned it's a sign of something worse to come... Any thoughts? Thank you!

Uninstall Sophos by following the developer's instructions. Anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software are not needed on a Mac and usually causes more problems than they solve. macOS already has great built-in security especially when the user also follows safe computing practices such as those outlined in the following article written by a respected forum contributor:
