How to Enhance Video and Audio in My Video using Final Cut Pro

Hi Guys.

I have this video which was recorded using a Phone Camera in 1080P 60FPS. It has a lot of background noise and so I want to remove the background noise and also somewhat make the colour of the video more colour ful. What do I need to do? Where do I need to go in Final Cut Pro to achieve these two things ? Where should I begin from ?

I just did a little bit of experiment on my own and I imported the video and added it to the timeline and then I went to Modify in FCP and chose Enhance Audio and when I also add Voce isolation and drag it to 100% the resulting file to export is a whopping 550 MB where as the original file is just 50MB why is FCP making this file with this enhancement such a huge file ? How do I ensure that even with the adjustments that Video File Size does not go so high ? While Export I am choosing Apple Devices 1080P option

The original File Information is this

Dimensions: MEO-S AAC, H.264

Colour profile: HD (1-1-1)

Audio channels: Stereo

Where do I start from ?

Also how can I see before and after in my project and compare the original file with the new modified one ?

I have a photo from my visit to Prague several years ago.

Suppose you want to adjust only the sky. I could do a Draw Mask

The moment I close the mask, everything outside the mask (or inside, if I check the Invert Mask box) vanishes.

But I can place another copy of the same clip underneath this one and adjust both parts separately.

So doing command 6 on a Mac keyboard while in FCPwill that automatically add colour grading and brightness to my video file ? And how do I export it to keep the size from not reaching some absurd size like 500MB and I also want to do audio enhancement on the same file how do I do that ? How do I save the colour grading and then proceed to Audio Enhancement ?

For an excellent introduction to FCP start with Steve Martin’s 60 minute intro.

For a more in depth introduction use the Izzy video tutorials. The version is a bit dated but the principles are the same.

It may seem a lot, but your video is at 60fps, which is another thing contributing to the end file size.

You could probably set your project at 30fps instead, and save a lot of space.

For more control of the exported file sizes, you may want to try Compressor. If you don't have Compressor, which costs $50, use HandBrake (free). Both allow you to lower the data rate in order to achieve smaller files.

WThat's not an ideal solution I may want to target something at the root cause level then first have the problem and then keep looking for a solution to handle it.

You want a smaller file. In most cases exporting a video to viewed at 60fps instead of 30fps is an utter waste of disk space. That would halve the space from the outset. Reducing from 1080p to 720p is another easy way to reduce file size. If your content is to viewed on phone screens, nobody will notice the difference, and the file will be one quarter the size, give or take...

Did you watch the video in the link? If you see it, you'll understand. I didn't do anything difficult

I'm moving the bar (on the left) up and down to adjust the brightness of the color wheel, but you can see it, right? I wrote “Adjust the brightness and color to your liking.” I didn't write something like "Press ⌘6 to automatically correct color."

It is important to look carefully, read carefully, and understand carefully. If you don't learn with an honest heart and interpretation, you won't be able to improve your editing skills.

@Luis Sequeira1

Also what I am trying to do is the subject in the video is against a wall, against a background colour which I do not want to use, not with the same colour. So I am trying to change the colour of the na background only and to do that I am using a colour mask but when I apply the colour mask and when I use the dropper to select the area where I want to change the colour and the after selection using the dropper when I make the changes in colour, the colour also spills over to the outside of the selected area where as I wanted to change this, to be applied only to the inside of the mask not the outside so. why is this colour getting spilled over in the entire video when I just want to apply the change to the background which I have selected and made it as the inside using a colour mask. can you please help me in this?

Man ! What you are suggesting sounds complicated atleast at this level when I have just started. Can you suggest some more simple way to achive this goal ? The color Mask sounds simple but it also spills the colour to unwanted areas.

Using the Keyer should not be more complicated, but if you want to use a color mask, you need to combine it with a shape mask in order to only affect some part of the image.

Perhaps with a screenshot illustrating what you are seeing we can give more specific advice.

Use the Keyer effect to remove the color you select and make that part of the image transparent. You can make a generator of the color you want and put it behind the clip.

Let me just rephrase what I am looking out for, so this video that I am talking about I do not want to entirely change its background, it is slightly warmer, yellowish in colour so I want to change it temperature to a cooler look at the same time changing the overall Colour Tone of the Video which inculdes the subject skin, clothes etc....

This helps clarify things a bit - though an actual screenshot would be even better. I understand if you can't post one, though.

What you describe suggests that you need several different color correction effects. Probably do an overall correction, and a secondary one restricted to the background. I stand by my previous suggestion for this one: besides the color mask, you need also a shape mask to restrict the effect only to some areas of the frame.

In your third point here you said it may be necessary to pick up more than one sample colour, so by that do you mean that use the dropper in the mask at different places of the car where there is yellow colour?

Also the example that you have used is pretty straight and simple but let's say if I were to tell you change the background colour in this example, then how do you make the selection of the background area? because that can be tricky as it is quadrangle, different corners need to be covered? So how would you go about making mask there?

Yes.

This will depend on how complicated the shape is.

You can't make a shape mask that is, say, pentagonal, or triangular.

You CAN combine more than one shape mask, adding, intersecting or subtracting masks to make somewhat more complicated forms.

If the shape is too complicated, then perhaps it's better to ditch shape masks altogether and use a Draw Mask.

The strategy then is different: you start by duplicating the clip, putting two copies of it one above the other in the timeline. Then apply a Draw Mask to the top clip, so that parts of the bottom clip are revealed. This way you can make changes to the bottom clip, and let only part of it see through the top clip.
