How to Enhance Video and Audio in My Video using Final Cut Pro

Hi Guys.

I have this video which was recorded using a Phone Camera in 1080P 60FPS. It has a lot of background noise and so I want to remove the background noise and also somewhat make the colour of the video more colour ful. What do I need to do? Where do I need to go in Final Cut Pro to achieve these two things ? Where should I begin from ?

I just did a little bit of experiment on my own and I imported the video and added it to the timeline and then I went to Modify in FCP and chose Enhance Audio and when I also add Voce isolation and drag it to 100% the resulting file to export is a whopping 550 MB where as the original file is just 50MB why is FCP making this file with this enhancement such a huge file ? How do I ensure that even with the adjustments that Video File Size does not go so high ? While Export I am choosing Apple Devices 1080P option

The original File Information is this

Dimensions: MEO-S AAC, H.264

Colour profile: HD (1-1-1)

Audio channels: Stereo

Where do I start from ?

Also how can I see before and after in my project and compare the original file with the new modified one ?

why am I not able to get the draw mask working

Suppose you want to adjust only the sky.

Since Luis wanted to color correct only the cut out sky, he used a "draw mask". The purpose of the draw mask is to "cut out the angle of view."

Although it is possible to change the shape of the draw mask, it is not suitable for tracking the movement of the subject.

If you’re using a color correction tool try using three effects shape mask.

What Tom is talking about is a shape mask. This is one of three types of masks.

  • Shape mask: determine the range by shape. The angle of view is not cropped.
  • Color mask: determine the range by color.
  • Draw mask: cut out the angle of view.

You don't understand the difference between multiple masks correctly. If you don't understand them, you won't be able to use them properly.

Hi Luis,

So attached is a screen recording of what I am trying to do in this project (I have used a Video which was available on the internet) Didn't want to use my video (Privacy Reasons) so in this Video I have used colour correction and then I have duplicated the clip and I am trying to add a Draw Mask on the duplicate clip and in doing so I am facing two issues First is, even after adding the Draw Mask to the clip why does the Pen to drop dots to create a mask does not appear ? And second is when it does appear and when I close the Dots on the mask nothing happens ? it does not turn into a ask ? So what is going wrong here ?

Also how do I attach a tracker on a mask ? I don't know that yet ?

Thank you for posting the video, it gives a better idea of what you are trying to achieve.

I don't think that a Draw Mask is the best way to handle this, and you should use tracking instead.

This video by Mark Spencer shows how to track a face (see from around 12 minutes 49 seconds on, where Mark discusses tracking a face):

Let me again explain what I am trying to achive with using draw mask. I feel the subject in my video which is like sitting on a chair talking ( Kind of Interview) I feel the ligh on his face needs more exposure, more brightness so I want to draw mask just on his face, which can also move according to his face moves and I can increase the exposure on his face. So what do I need to do ? And how do I get there ?

HI Luis,

But I am just doing following what you have mentioned in the example. of the Castle Video that you have taken, I am talking about your reply which has been pinned on my Thread here it says First you selected the sky part to change the colour of the sky and then you duplicated the clip to make other changes to the video.

So I was trying to do the same thing in the First clip I did the Colour Grading and Correction and in the duplicate clip I am trying to increase the exposure on the Subject's Face. is it not how that is supposed to work ? Then do I don't need a Duplicate clip to be added to the main lip to increase the exposure on the subject's Face ?

Again: you need to apply the mask to the TOP clip, not the one on the bottom.

Whenever you stack two or more clips on the timeline, the ones above will cover those below them.

For example, here is a solid blue clip on top, and a green one below.

The viewer will be solid blue, because the blue covers the green.

If now I add a mask to the green clip, NOTHING changes, because the clip is completely hidden.

But if I add a mask to the BLUE clip, parts of the green will show.

I am getting terribly confused. Luis says do not use Duplicate Clip if you wanna use Draw Mask as you need to apply it only on the Original Clip not Duplicate Clip. And you say use duplicate clip and leave it beneath orignal Clip and when I do, I do not get a Mask and my mask does not get created and works.

No, no, no!

I never said that.

If you want to use a Draw Mask as you describe, you absolutely have to add a duplicate clip.

You were applying the mask to the wrong copy, though. You need to apply the mask to the copy on top.

It is. When I close the dots on draw mask nothing happens ?? What is supposed to happen next and do I need to click anywhere for further action to happen ?

If you keep doing the same thing and ignoring the advice you are given, I don’t see how we can move forward.

For the last time: you have two copies of a clip. The top one “hides” ghe bottom one. If you insist on using a Draw Mask (or any mask, or any other effect, for that matter), and apply it to the bottom clip, you won’t see anything because all of this clip is hidden behind the top one. You have to apply the mask to the top clip.
