Regarding to post Onscreen code for Airport Express - Apple Community

For me, the issue was solved by using AirPort utility with a Mac or other Apple Device and setting for Airport Express an AirPlay password from last configuration tab.

After creating AirPlay password, connecting to the Airport Express with AirPlay prompted new dialogue for Airplay password, instead "on screen code".

Hope this helps, your Apple device doesn't need reset nor it is not infected.
