Recovery server connection

A friend gave me two 2013 iMac. I am able to start up off the recovery server and format. The drive as Mac extended when I try to install the High Sierra operating system. I get messages that the recovery server cannot be contacted. My connection works great. In fact, I am writing this from my phone which is on the same network, what the heck is going on? I am beyond frustrated.

Intel based iMac won’t connect to Recovery Server Hey folks, I spent all day on this and finally got an answer I wanted to share. The Intel based iMac won’t connect to the Recovery Server no matter what you do to help it said for this: use the reset of the Intel chip by holding down option, command, P and R during power on/bootup. that forces it to let go of a bad config in its networking that won’t let it talk to the Recovery Server over the internet. Apple Support helped me figure that out after wasting all day testing to fix it myself. Sudo commands and all. Ugh.

Server status page / recovery server I've been trying to re-install my iMac's OS, having already erased the HD - so no going back. In recovery mode I keep getting 'The recovery server could not be contacted'. When I look at the server status page, the recovery server is not listed. Does this mean it no longer exists? is that the problem? I've tried most things I've seen suggested to cure the problem eg checking the internet connection, syncing the date to apple servers, setting an earlier date, trying various key combinations with "r" etc., but nothing seems to work so any advice gratefully accepted.

That method of reinstalling macOS "High Sierra" is no longer an option. Apple silently removed it about a year ago without explanation.

There are anecdotal reports that an Apple Store can reinstall High Sierra: Official Apple Support
