Thank you. but on the ipad i can see many pics mainly in different old children cam apps such as can star. so files are not deleted, are they?

So you're saying that you have an iPhone 4 in Recovery mode, and an iPad that is showing a bunch of pictures? And you think the pictures on the iPad are the same as the ones that are on the iPhone?

By any chance, was she using iCloud Photos (which would seem to imply that the phone is really an iPhone 4s – an Apple Support document says that iCloud Photos requires at least iOS 9)?

If she was using iCloud Photos, and she has sufficient space in iCloud, the master copies for all of her photos will be on Apple's servers – in iCloud. And if she was using iCloud Photos, with the same Apple ID, on the iPad, that would explain why the photos were on the iPad.

It would also be good news. If I understand things correctly, wiping a phone completely does not erase photos in iCloud. They remain there and you can access them by connecting other devices to iCloud Photos (like the iPad) or by using the iCloud Web interface (https://www.icloud.com/).

Hi Servant of Cats,

Thankl you very much for your detail answer. you have understand correctly. it should be both ipad and iphone 4 pics, and it might be even on icloud - which can be great if even after restore the pics will not erase. i am checking. as for the ver 9 sw you have mentioned - indeed i had to do 2 sw updates (as it was not used few years) to rev 7 i think and than to rev 9. anyway, i am checking your inputs and will inform soon. thanks again.
