icloud drive files disappearing or become blank

In my ~/Documents folder which is part of iCloud I have my github repos and up until now have never had a problem with my files disappearing. For the past several weeks my files slowly have disappeared or become 0 byte files with nothing in them.

What is going on and how do I fix this?

Folder disappeared from DOCUMENTS I had a folder in iCloud Drive but I moved it to documents on the Mac to take up less space as it contained files I didn't use frequently. The aforementioned folder is gone, in fact I can't even access the Mac Documents because I get this message: "documents cannot be opened because the original element cannot be found" I called Apple but they don't understand the problem. The folder is NOT in the trash is completely gone. Among other things, I tried to move other files in the mac documents to understand what could happen or if at least I was able to open them and this happens: "you can place items in documents but you will no longer be able to view them. continue? other users with sufficient permissions will be able to use these elements " Anyone have a solution? Thank you

My Documents and Desktop became empty all of a sudden Suddenly all my files disappeared from Documents and Desktop folders. Strange things are happening. Recently my Apple ID which I was using from 1 year, suddenly stopped existing. Many files were stored in iCloud through this account, which also got lost. Why is this happening??? This is annoying. How can files disappear on their own?

iCloud Folder Files Re-Downloading Suddenly I have plenty of space on my local hard drive, plenty of space on my iCloud drive, but suddenly on one of my computers it's re-downloading hundreds of my iCloud folders and files - the folders have either the download arrow on them, the empty cloud symbol, or the cloud with an exclamation point. I didn't change anything, didn't move anything. Why are they being re-downloaded, and what would have removed them or made them unavailable in the first place when they are all local files sitting in my iCloud Drive folder? I do not have any automated space management turned on, I do not have documents/desktop sync turned on. Running Big Sur 11.5. (Can't install latest update because the download will never finish, I've tried dozens of times.) I've restarted, I've reset SMC and NVRAM/PRAM and run repairs in disk utility.
