My iPhone battery draining faster after iOS 17.4.1 update

I have an almost brand new iPhone 13 (2 weeks old) and I just updated it to iOS 17.4.1 last night. Since that the battery runs out way faster, before the update i could use it for 20 minutes without losing 2 percents. I’m aware that battery life decreases after a while, but not in 2 weeks. Do you think a new update will change this?

Updated to 17.4 1 this am. Was at a birthday party, took a couple pics 5 to be exact. Battery went from 98% to 4% in about 6 hrs with very little usage.

I found an amazing fix. I too was searching for the solution to the battery drainage after the 17.4.1 and after that no change in my usage routine but I was charging my phone 2-3 times a day and it was driving me nuts.

Found this in Redit: Go to Settings>Accessibility>Face ID and attention> Switch off Attention Aware Features.

It worked after that.

Now I am back to charging my phone after 1&1/2 days

I have a brand new iPhone 15 Plus and after updating to iOS 17.4.1. I am also experiencing severe battery drain. My battery is set to optimize battery charging. I’m doing the same routine and charging it at the same percentage that I always do. Bluetooth is turned off, etc. This is also happening to my husband’s iPhone and both of our iPads. We have done backups to all of our devices before updating the software. So Yes, I do blame the iOS 17.4.1 update. If everyone is having the same issue of severe battery drain, we all can’t be wrong.

Like others this update is really draining my battery. Having used iPhones for many years I don’t find it helpful for someone to blame the user. My settings haven’t been changed and I never had this issue before. Too many people are having this problem suggesting the update is doing something about which users are unaware. Apple need to fix.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

Agree with other posters here. I use my iPhone 12 to check email, look at Instagram once per day, for texting, occasional phone calls (imagine - using a phone as a phone!) and listening to podcasts for 30 minutes to 1 hour to help me fall asleep. I’m NOT taxing the phone at all. Battery was fine until last week’s update. I am now closing all apps and leaving the phone in low power mode after it has been charged. I “reset the network” because I think that helped once before. Not this time. I’m very disappointed.

I've been experiencing the same battery/charging issues after the update. When I contacted AppleCare, they did a diagnostic over the phone and said it had nothing to do with the update, but rather, was an internal physical issue. It's validating to have found this thread with others experiencing the same. What do we do?

Same here, something is wrong with that version.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and before this update I never have battery issues.

Now when I charge it it always show me an advice:

Charging on Hold

Charging will resume when iPhone returns to normal temperature

It is been a nightmare for me to use my phone as I pretend. It did affect our battery’s usage time after the update, it will also depends which apps you are using daily, some are better optimized than others. I am mostly an instagram user and as you call tell from my text, it is a nightmare for me to be scrolling thought videos and even answering messages. I’ve my battery health sitting at 100% for quite a long time and still not be available to reach eight hours of screen usage, normally it sits at 4 hours or five hours on a really good day. I am thinking of switching to android

Update to my previous comment-

After going on YouTube and searching the phrases iOS "17.4.1 battery drain" and "iOS 17.4 battery drain." I found a bunch of videos on tips of what to turn on and off on for my iPhone. I watched about 4 or so videos and used my better judgment on what I wanted to toggle off or keep on. But I ended up toggling a lot of things off that I didn't know were on. Point is, it worked! My battery life is back to what it was or even better. On 1 charge I am now back to lasting 48 hours on my iPhone 13 Pro. I'm not sure what exactly I switched off or if it was a combination of things. But after watching a variety of YouTube videos (took about an hour of my time), pausing and finding where it was in my phone, investigating if I actually needed on or off = battery life is fantastic! Again, use your own discretion and judgment about what you actually want to turn off on your phone. Just search the above phrases on YouTube. I'm still convinced that either the 17.4 or the 17.4.1 update toggled something on and/or installed something to run in the background that greatly reduced the battery life. I never had battery life issues until these updates. For now, or until the next update, battery life is great. One thing I definitely turned off was "iPhone automatic install" under my updates!!

I hadn't noticed a battery drain at first, but now it seems that active use of a Bluetooth-connected device (headphones, bike, speaker) drain my battery at lightning speed.

A 30 minute bike-ride to work with active Bluetooth-headphones on the ride drained my battery with 25%, which normally would have drained maybe at the absolutely most up to 10%.

I can feel the phone (Iphone 15) heating up when I use a Bluetooth-device and it will cool down when I stop the usage. I've never had that problem with my current phone or the earlier Iphone 12.
