My iPhone battery draining faster after iOS 17.4.1 update

I have an almost brand new iPhone 13 (2 weeks old) and I just updated it to iOS 17.4.1 last night. Since that the battery runs out way faster, before the update i could use it for 20 minutes without losing 2 percents. I’m aware that battery life decreases after a while, but not in 2 weeks. Do you think a new update will change this?

I found an amazing fix. I too was searching for the solution to the battery drainage after the 17.4.1 and after that no change in my usage routine but I was charging my phone 2-3 times a day and it was driving me nuts.

Found this in Redit: Go to Settings>Accessibility>Face ID and attention> Switch off Attention Aware Features.

It worked after that.

Now I am back to charging my phone after 1&1/2 days

Update to my previous comment-

After going on YouTube and searching the phrases iOS "17.4.1 battery drain" and "iOS 17.4 battery drain." I found a bunch of videos on tips of what to turn on and off on for my iPhone. I watched about 4 or so videos and used my better judgment on what I wanted to toggle off or keep on. But I ended up toggling a lot of things off that I didn't know were on. Point is, it worked! My battery life is back to what it was or even better. On 1 charge I am now back to lasting 48 hours on my iPhone 13 Pro. I'm not sure what exactly I switched off or if it was a combination of things. But after watching a variety of YouTube videos (took about an hour of my time), pausing and finding where it was in my phone, investigating if I actually needed on or off = battery life is fantastic! Again, use your own discretion and judgment about what you actually want to turn off on your phone. Just search the above phrases on YouTube. I'm still convinced that either the 17.4 or the 17.4.1 update toggled something on and/or installed something to run in the background that greatly reduced the battery life. I never had battery life issues until these updates. For now, or until the next update, battery life is great. One thing I definitely turned off was "iPhone automatic install" under my updates!!

I have a iPhone 12 Pro. Did the update (17.4.1) yesterday and my battery went from 100% to 12% in 3 hours! I called Apple support and they said my battery failed the test. Battery health was at 86%. I did change the battery directly with Apple and it somewhat better, but not as good as it was.

It seems like YouTube & YouTube Music is draining the battery a lot more.

Absolutely disagree.

Many users like me use the phone in the same way update after update so it is not how you use the phone.

If an update is not well optimized it affects the phone’s performance and also the battery.

In this particular case with iOS 17.4.1 many users we have seen that our battery is draining faster than with iOS 17.4 and I’m not using the phone in a different way I had been using before. Thus of course the update has a direct impact in the battery if it is not well optimized.

I hate charging my phone battery all of the time and after the 17.4.1, that is what I am doing now.

I've been using iPhones for many years and this is not the first time that I am updating my phone to a new OS.

It happens every time, you upgrade and the phone takes a while to get optimised in the background, you give a couple of restarts over a period of 2 weeks and it settles down and the battery drainage ceases.

But after the 17.4.1 it is not going away, have a 13 Pro and I have not changed any of my usage habits, used to charge after 2 days when it was around 30%, my battery is still showing a maximum capacity of 92% but after the update I have to charge it twice a day, which is totally unacceptable. I thought about upgrading to 15 Pro but reading about 15 Pro users having the same issue.

This started happening right after I updated. Doing casual stuff, like taking a couple of pictures, scrolling through safari, watching a couple of TikToks depletes battery at an unprecedented level. I’m very familiar with my phone usage patterns and how much battery I usually use and this is definitely the update’s fault. Even not using the phone depletes battery at a very weird rate. My battery health is at 100% and I’ve had my iPhone 13 barely 5 months, so I doubt it has anything to do with the phone itself.

I also have an old iPhone SE that worked fine until this update hit, now the battery is going down very fast too. I’m shocked there is still no official communication on this egregious flop from Apple’s side, given an update is rendering new machines practically obsolete after just a couple of months of use.

I have a brand new iPhone 15 Plus and after updating to iOS 17.4.1. I am also experiencing severe battery drain. My battery is set to optimize battery charging. I’m doing the same routine and charging it at the same percentage that I always do. Bluetooth is turned off, etc. This is also happening to my husband’s iPhone and both of our iPads. We have done backups to all of our devices before updating the software. So Yes, I do blame the iOS 17.4.1 update. If everyone is having the same issue of severe battery drain, we all can’t be wrong.

Like others this update is really draining my battery. Having used iPhones for many years I don’t find it helpful for someone to blame the user. My settings haven’t been changed and I never had this issue before. Too many people are having this problem suggesting the update is doing something about which users are unaware. Apple need to fix.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
