How can I retrieve lost Stickies app content on iMac running Ventura?

I accidentaly close the Stickies App and now when I open it is empty. I had important content I was working. I don't have the app on other devices, only on my Mac. I understand this must be frustrating, especially since you apparently lost important content. Let's try some things to recover your Stickies data:

1. Check Recently Closed:

  • Open the Stickies app.
  • Click on the "File" menu in the top left corner.
  • See if "Open Recent" has the document you were working on.

2. Explore Time Machine Again:

There might be a hidden issue accessing the Stickies data in Time Machine. Here's a refined approach:

  • Quit Stickies: Make sure the app is completely closed.
  • Access Library Folder: In Finder, hold down the "Option" key and click on "Go" in the menu bar. Select "Library". (Library folder is hidden by default).
  • Find Stickies Data: Navigate to "Containers" > "Stickies" > "Data" > "Library" > "Stickies". This folder stores individual Sticky notes as ".rtfd" files.
  • Enter Time Machine: With the Stickies folder open, enter Time Machine (clock icon in menu bar).
  • Locate Backup: Navigate to a date and time before you lost the Stickies content. You can preview the contents of ".rtfd" files by clicking on them to see if it's the note you're looking for.
  • Restore: If you find the right file, select it and click "Restore".

Important Note: Don't open the ".rtfd" files directly within Time Machine. This might cause issues.

3. Search Spotlight for Content:

  • Open Spotlight search (magnifying glass icon in top right corner).
  • Try searching for keywords or phrases you remember from your lost Stickies note. Spotlight might locate some text fragments.

4. Contact Apple Support:

If none of these solutions work, consider contacting Apple Support for further assistance. They might have advanced recovery methods or troubleshoot the Time Machine issue.
