Apple News free app has disappeared from my MacBook Air

I have the same problem (M1 MacBook Pro, UK based).

I found a partial solution on another thread.

Open Finder / Applications folder. News won't be there.

Press Command, Shift, Full stop (period). This unhides hidden apps. News will be there, greyed out.

Click it anyway. News will open as normal. You can drag it into the dock to make it easier to open next time. But you can't unhide it, can't sync it with iCloud and so it doesn't have your subscriptions, etc.

It's all a little odd.

This worked for me on my Mac. I fixed this once a month or more ago and haven't had a problem since:

I knew it must work. I have no idea how it disappeared but I got more help from an Apple support supervisor and we

found the help online.

My app was hidden on my MacBook Air. I found it and was able to open it by going to finder then applications and pressing command + shift + . keys simultaneously.

Then it appears in grey but I was finally able to load it and save it to my computer.

YEA! I have News + on my Mac!

Just to be clear...you went to Finder-->Applications, and News wasn't in there?

Did you try Spotlight, and typing in News to see if it's anywhere on your Mac?

(I can't imagine a scenario where the app would simply "vanish").

Try and go to the App Store>click your name in the left corner. There you see your previous downloaded apps from the App Store. Check if the News app is to be found there

Have you tried:

System Settings-->AppleID (should be top item in the left pane)-->iCloud--->under Apps Using iCloud, if News isn't there--->click Show More Apps. News should appear in this list. Ensure it's toggled On.

And to point out that doing this won't erase any of the apps or documents on your Mac...it's actually pretty benign. But it does take a few minutes, so there's that.

(I'm hoping that someday I'll see how you were able to make the News app disappear! 😄)

Apple News is a feature incorporated in newer macOS versions. Determine which macOS version your Mac is using by following these instructions: Find out which macOS your Mac is using - Apple Support.

I'm out of ideas to help, unfortunately. The only thing left is what I'd call the "nuclear" option, and reinstall MacOS on your Mac. (Obviously, this shouldn't be necessary on a new Mac!). I'm 99% certain that News is included with the MacOS.

Please make sure you do a Time Machine backup of your Mac prior to doing this.

Thank you. This worked. You mentioned that this technique wouldn't restore your paid News account but for me it did including my favorite sites, etc.

Guess what? After 2 calls to apple support I found out that although Apple News (and News+) is advertised as a feature on Mac it is not available on Mac. False advertising? I added it as a suggestion but I sure wish they would just correct the advertising this so we don't spend countless hours researching then calling support.

I can't imagine why support would have told you Apple News isn't available on a Mac. Here's a screenshot of (a portion of) my dock on my Mac:

Why it's not on the OP's Mac I'm unable to explain, though.

I use Apple News on my Mac daily. I think that either you or support was confused about something.
