Apple News free app has disappeared from my MacBook Air

Up until a few days ago, I have been using the free Apple News app on my MacBook Air on a daily basis. (I'm pretty sure the app was pre-installed in the dock when I bought the MacBook.) A couple of days ago, the news page started opening automatically as soon as I opened the MacBook. I didn't really want this, so I quit the app thinking to start it up again from the apps in Finder, but it has completely disappeared. I searched in the app store, but was only given the Apple+ subscription option, and even then it is not available for MacBook. I can find no options to enable news in either System or iCloud settings. Any ideas, anyone..? Thanks.

I have the same problem (M1 MacBook Pro, UK based).

I found a partial solution on another thread.

Open Finder / Applications folder. News won't be there.

Press Command, Shift, Full stop (period). This unhides hidden apps. News will be there, greyed out.

Click it anyway. News will open as normal. You can drag it into the dock to make it easier to open next time. But you can't unhide it, can't sync it with iCloud and so it doesn't have your subscriptions, etc.

Hope this helps.

It's all a little odd.
