How do I change an action when I swipe left on an email?

On iPad I can only Archive my Apple account emails (not gmail) when I swipe left, this became the norm after an iOS update some time ago. Whereas on my iPhone for the same email account I can easily delete emails by swiping left. How to do fix this

This only applies to my Apple email address and only on my iPad, whereas on my iPhone on the same Apple email address the original and more efficient method to delete still exists ie when I swipe left on my iPhone Apple email account it defaults to delete.

This is revised process on iPad appeared after and iOS update some time ago and I can find nothing in settings to change the default - happy to be corrected though

Check the individual mail account settings - as each mail account mailbox folder is configurable:

Settings > Mail > [Your Mail Account] > Account Settings > Advanced >

  • [Mailbox Behaviours]
  • [Move Discarded Messages Into]

Ensure that your mailboxes are configured as required.
