Getting error trying to make a DVD with Final Cut: Dobly Digital component missing

Using Final Cut Pro 10.4.6 on Monterey 12.7.4.

About 4 years ago, I finished making my main movie: _The Great Race_. I now need to make a DVD of it, but am unable to.

I cannot use the original NeatVideo v4 and v5 plugins on my new Mac, and my old Mac is unbootable. So I copied the finished export to the Browser window (dragged it) where it showed up as a clip. Then I put it in a project. (I cannot use the source library file (.fcpbundle) for this reason.)

So I click the project, I click Share, then DVD, and then I get this error:

DVD: The setting Dolby Digital uses software that is not installed or may no longer be supported. (Missing Compressor Plug-in)

OK, what Dolby Digital setting? Who asked for Dolby Digital?

This happens whether I put a blank DVD in the burner or not. It is a DVD-R, BTW.

Please. How can I make a DVD of this exported video? Maybe some other software?

TIA!

If you can create a disk image from FCP you should be able to burn the image contents to the disc. I think you can still do that from the Finder or from Disk Utility.

I'll give it a shot. I normally hate upgrades, as usually something I like breaks or goes bye-bye or it's simply not worth doing. I also heard about the horrible problems with the instability of 10.6.7 and don't know what version after that is okay. I'll see if I can dig up 10.6.10. Says in the App Store that 10.7 need Sonoma for exporting faster. Well, I can live without that for now. It's disappointing that the App Store offers a version of FCP (10.7.1) that requires macOS 13.5 or later, which I don't have. Maybe I can resurrect my copy of 10.6.8 first and see if that fixes it. Interesting that the featured reviews are 6y and 1y old!

First, burning DVDs in FCPX/Compressor has always been a roll of the dice. It's always been unstable. A year or two ago I had to burn DVDs and FCPX was so problematic, I finally purchased MyDVDPro which worked just fine.

As for exporting with a Dolby error, I'd first triple check all the audio clips in that timeline, make sure they're all just standard stereo pair or mono clips. I'm betting there's something in the timeline that has some reference to Dolly. I'd go over everything several times.

Well, I have FCP 10.6.4 on my old machine. I have 10.6.6 on the new one. And 10.6.6 gives the weird Dolby Digital error.

The app Store only had 10.7.1 and seems to require macOS 13.5 or higher.

But I have a zip file of 10.6.8 and installed that. And now the thing works, if I make the image file on the system drive first and then burn it from the Finder. Hurray! And now the App Store no longer has 10.7.1, but will open 10.6.8 for me instead. Weird.

But the colors aren't right. They're a little faded, and in particular, the pink states on the U.S. map scene have a more sickly bluish-purple-ish-magenta-ish color, which I labored to make look better. Is this normal when making a DVD? Should I crank up the saturation a tad and try again? I had the same saturation reduction with the Cisdem program, but I didn't check the pink states and the free version only does half of your movie or the first 5 minutes, whichever is less. So is this reduction of saturation of color when making a DVD normal?

TIA!

Well, I couldn't find any references to Dolby Digital or anything else strange in the sound. It is an audio file I purchased from the iTunes store. I didn't do any processing except to edit out a 39-second segment to make it fit.

Anyway, the upgrade from 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 fixed the problem, except that the colors have a little less saturation. I was wondering if you experienced that with MyDVDPro? TIA.

Turns out that FCP 10.6.6, which is the version I had previously on my newest Mac, gets the error. After upgrading to 10.6.8, the error is gone, but I cannot burn directly from FCP. I have to make that image file and go to the Finder and burn that.

Now, a correction on the color bit: I noticed that the colors when using VLC were more saturated than when using DVD Player. OK, I adjusted the intensity and brightness in VLC and matched it to what FCP and QT display. Now, IINA 1.3.0 produces an image with slightly more color saturation, while IINA 1.3.4 produces an image that is slightly darker image. I can't find any adjustment controls for IINA. Now, I wonder what will happen in NH with an actual physical standalone DVD player!

Anyway, the thing works, but in 2 steps.
