how to shut down my 2022 macbook pro

need a way to truly shut down my 2020 13" macbook. I've thought I've shut it down a few times. " use menu and opt for "shut off" waited a minute before closing lid" But I'll come back open the lid and the computer is on.

How do you shut down my 2024 MacBook Pro out of the box? I'm trying to set up my brand new MacBook Pro 14" (bought 12-19-2024). I ran into a network connection problem I couldn't solve, so I just decided to stop then and there. I was able to click on the back button to get back to the beginning of the "easy" setting up procedure, but I couldn't figure out how to turn it (the computer) off. How do you shut down this computer? In the old days all I had to do when I couldn't get my Mac computers to shut down, was to hold down the on button. As long as there was no battery involved, I could always unplug it. With this new one I don't even know how to turn it off. I don't even know how to force it to shut down. Help! I might just take it back to the store and have them set it up for me.

If you want to shut down a Mac,  > Shut Down... does it.

Opening the lid turns it back on.
