Backup coworker's iphone to my computer so that files can be used on Mac.

A coworker has resigned and I am to take over most of their work for the time being. This includes getting copies of their files off of their iPhone before it is wiped and reassigned to another worker. Files include Voice Memos, Notes, phone book, Numbers files, and some photos. Though I need access to this information on my computer, it would be a very bad thing if their stuff and my stuff got mixed together.

I have searched both here on apple.com and on the broader internet for the best way to do this, and I don't find anything that really addresses this in a way that makes me confident that it will turn out right.

I am very grateful for any advice you can give...even if it's not the whole solution, but just one part! Anything to get me started in the right direction.

P.S. Work doesn't allow use of the Cloud, so I'm connecting by cable to my Mac.

You can back up that phone to your computer, but the backup can only be restored to another iPhone. It’s contents will not be intermingled with yours; it will be entirely encapsulated in the backup. Just make sure the name of that phone is not the same as the name of your phone (Settings/General/About).

There are 3rd party apps for Mac that would allow you do extract the contents of the backup to your computer. iMazing is one, and if you search for “iPhone backup extractor” you can find many more.

The safest way to do all of this is to create a new user on your Mac for the co-worker’s data, log in to that user, and do both the backup and any data extraction to that user ID.

Hi again, Lawrence!

Today I purchased iMazing.

Do you use this software yourself? If so, I have a question.

I was able to move the pictures over in a standalone way, but for all other items, it is wanting to do a backup, or else give me a very limited, incomplete copy. Do you happen to know if I do the backup, if I will still be able to access files like Voice Memos, Notes, and especially Contacts on the Mac?

Also, if I do the backup, will those items continue to be tied to the old Apple ID?

Thanks for your help!
