How to fix camera focus issues when scanning QR codes in iPhone

I am having problems when I go to scan from in the camera. For example, trying to scan a lottery ticket, QR code or a product QR code the camera will not focus. Does anyone know how to get the camera to focus on these? I can’t even make the camera focus in at all.

Do you have a Pro Model iPhone, like 14 Pro or 15 Pro, which has a macro-focus camera? If you don't and you are trying to scan a QR code up close, it may not focus closer than 12 inches from the code. You may need to look at the image from a bit further than 12 inches.

You can also try these steps:

  • reinstall or update the app you using to scan QR codes (only if you are using a third-party app for scanning the QR codes)
  • clean the camera lens
  • remove any camera lens protector you may have
  • use Apple camera app to scan QR codes (to activate this function go to Settings > Camera, scroll down and turn on Scan QR Codes option, shown in the attached videos)
