I have a Mac Studio M1 Max (2022) and I have a few SSD's attached to the USB-C ports. I put a T5 & a T7 on and ran a Disk speed test on both. They reported about 475 MB/s write and about 526 MB/s read. I also have a Crucial X9 attached and ran the same test. 845 MB/s write and 810 MB/s read. Are the Samsung T5 & T7 drives going bad? Everything is formatted ExFat.

Same, T7 is slow, original cable, directly connected. Mac Studio M2 Ultra.

for the T5 drive, those speeds are about right. but with the T7 you should be seeing ~800 write and ~900 read. you should consider contacting Samsung Support and ask them to weigh in.
you can look at what speed your Mac is running the USB use where the drives are cob=nnected:
menu > about This Mac < (system report) > Hardware > USB
...
ExFAT, being a 'foreign' file system, will not be as fast as 'native' macOS formats.
