Unable to update my MacBook Pro (Retina 13" Mid 2014)

I have an old MacBook Pro (Retina,13", Mid2014) with MacOs (Mojave 10.14.1) that I have been trying to update forever and ended abandoning for a M1 MacBook air. I need to repurpose this machine but I still cannot update. I tried most of the things on the net to no avail.

Your assistance will be highly appreciated.

If you’re not fussed about the current contents, maybe boot Recovery, and erase and re-install:

Use macOS Recovery on an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

Boot that with Option-Command-R to get the latest supported.

The classic way to check for interference from other software is to restart into safe mode, which does not load most third-party add-ons. Try the same experiment form Safe mode.

(Hold Shift at startup, and endure the five-minute additional disk check as it starts up. Screen updates may be wonky and slow, but will ultimately be correct.)

'Works in safe mode, fails in regular mode' implies "It's something you added."
