MacBook says Brother printer is out of paper when it isn't

My MacBook says my Brother printer is out of paper when it isn't. And if I try to print, the Brother printer then says it is out of paper, and needs to be reset. There is no problem printing from my phone. I have tried resetting printer/scanners from System Preferences on my MacBook, and then adding back the printer, but the problem persists.

In general, problems like this are caused by designating the Printer as the wrong type, essentially using the wrong driver, which then gets confused about what status bits men what.

Printing from your Phone will be using AirPrint (driverless) printing.

You can AirPrint from your Mac if you prefer, but you must Create a Printer instance with AirPrint.

You have not provided enough specifics about what model printer, what model-year Mac and what MacOS to debug further.
