iPhone and Bluetooth ringing

When my iPhone is connected to my poly 5200 Bluetooth, an incoming call rings in the headset AND the Bluetooth This is NOT expected behavior - as peeps are questioning how to do this, and responses indicate it is not possible.

when connected to a Bluetooth, the ringer and sounds should ONLY come from the Bluetooth…. iPhone can’t stop the “swish” sound from occurring when sending a message, unless you disable notifications all together. Therefore you turn on Bluetooth during a meeting and no one can hear your phone ring, or a ding when you send a text or a swish when you send a text.

so, why would my iPhone ring on the iPhone AND in the Bluetooth??

I’ve installed poly app, signed out of iCloud and played with volume/ringer off - I’m getting real frustrated, especially since my alarm didn’t make a sound this morning

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 17

Yes, it IS expected behavior. That’s the way it’s always worked.

Notifications will be directed to the connected Bluetooth device. Calls, alarms, and timers will sound on both the Bluetooth device and the phone itself.

If you don’t want calls to ring on the phone itself then flip the ring/vibrate switch on the side of the phone to vibrate only.
