Printer Paused Only on Mac

My MacBook Air will not print any documents to my newly installed printer. I installed a new printer and connected it to the wifi. I have four computers connected to the network and they all print except my MacBook Air. The other three run Windows. I can also print from my iPhone. The printer is the same make and model as my last printer, which I was able to print to from my MacBook Air. Every time I print a document - simple Word document or PDF - the printer pauses instantly. If I then print from another computer it prints from the other computer but my Mac still says the printer is paused.

MacBook Air is running Sonoma 14.4.1

The printer is HP OfficeJet Pro 8720

I have uninstalled, shut down and reinstalled. I have tried other things from the internet but nothing works. I love Apple products but this is beyond frustrating. I need to print to work. Why has Apple made this so difficult?

Does anyone have any suggestions that a non-computer expert can try to get this MacBook Air to print like a normal computer?

You can try to reset the printing system to see if the issues persist

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Control-click the printer in the Printers list on the right, then choose Reset Printing System.
  3. Note: If no printers appear in the Printers list, you can Control-click the empty list and choose Reset Printing System.
  4. After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners settings is empty.
  5. Re-add any printers.

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately it didn't work. I did as you said and even tried again after restarting the computer and printer. I was able to access and print from another printer on the network (HP OfficeJet Pro 7720) from my MacBook Air. But as for printing from my MacBook to the HP 8720, still pauses every time I try to print. Any other suggestions?
