IOS 17.5.1 Problems

Phone was dandy until I did iOS 17.5.1 update last night. I just got off phone with Apple Technical Support, no solutions as of now. Here’s a list of problems now:

  1. Dropping WiFi A LOT throughout day, 5 min on, then off, repeat
  2. Turning off WiFi, still couldn’work online using 5G
  3. Text and email notifications not working at all, banners nor sound
  4. When WiFi was working during day, I’d send email to myself to check, emails sat in OutBox until I waited 5-10 min then I’d go back to OutBox and push it through a second time. It would then go through

Very concerned I’m not getting important incoming emails.

I haven’t even checked yet if my photos have been messed up like others are reporting (which 17.5.1 was supposed to fix from previous update that caused photo issues)

My internet company is not having issues. My phone provider Verizon isn’t having issues.

This must be iOS huge mistakes. Nothing is related to each other, the only common denominator is 17.5.1

All of my issues stemmed from Screen time settings. the following steps solved most of my issues:

Disable screentime completely (bottom of hte screen)

Open content & Privacy restrictions, allowed apps & features - and allow Siri.

For some reason, Siri had been disabled, and disappeared from my Settings menus - which meant that nothing else worked (like CarPlay, etc...) this seems to have resolved things (for now)

Wi-Fi is broken in 17.5.1. I am having the same issues on multiple different networks (also on multiple iPhones). Apple needs to fix this. Below is what happens:

  • Sometimes phone connects to Wi-Fi normally and there are no problems.
  • When you leave the network range and come back, sometimes it will not connect. It will appear that the device is connected, but you will be unable to use Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi symbol is missing from the phone.
  • If you click on that network on the phone, you will notice that the IP address is NOT something that would have been given from your router. i.e. Mine should always be 192.168.1.XXX, yet when it is in this state it will be something like 192.168.222.54 and the subnet will also be wrong (typically it will be 255.255.0.0 in this state).
  • Sometimes this can be fixed by toggling the "Private Wi-Fi Address" The only reason this works is because the phone will sometimes attempt to find a new router when you do this, and it will then ask the router for it's IP.

Something got broken in 17 where the iPhone is looking elsewhere for an IP address. Note that setting the IP to manual DOES NOT fix this, so something is inherently wrong when the phone is attempting to find the router.

After 12 hours of google and reading discussion I finally found a solution. I did a factory reset without iCloud back up and my phone is back to normal. Can not back it up though guys… when I backed it up, it still had the update. Sucks I have to start from stretch on my phone again but at least I had lots of my contacts saved on google.

Mobile Data issue fixed.

I have fixed this issue, go to settings-> cellular > cellular data options > click on data roaming > there will be option of voice > click on it and deselect LTE. Also under cellular data options turn off “Limit IP address tracking” .

It worked! Pathetic iPhone testers! I am using iphone 11, ios 17.5.1, Jio 4G physical sim.

Good morning, all,

I've been having this Wi-Fi issue at work for days and finally connected sucessfully after using a combination of "fixes" I found on the forum. I have been able to automatically connect on my home Wi-Fi with no issues.

1) Toggle off wifi

2) Hard restart iPhone

3) Manually enter DNS as 8.8.8.8 and toggle off "Private Wi-Fi Address"

4) Connect to Wi-FI

I hope this helps someone.

Similar issues here. But also lose connectivity to other apps (Denon AVR, HEOS) on the same wifi network. Also delays on receiving verification codes from two step verification options on apps. SMS messages sometimes don’t go through. All seem related to WIFI like everyone else. But if I turn the phone off wait a minute or two and turn it back on, seems to clear the problems temporarily.

Had this issue and quite a few more. After googling, chat with Apple, totally resetting phone-nothing worked. Ended up at Apple where the tech claimed it was NOT a software issue, but hardware. They basically replaced the whole inside of the phone under warranty, by 6 days.

Funny thing is when we got it back “fixed”, it was not updated to 17.5.1. I was unable to find a work around without a computer so I was forced to install it.

Phone still isn’t right.
