IOS 17.5.1 Problems

Phone was dandy until I did iOS 17.5.1 update last night. I just got off phone with Apple Technical Support, no solutions as of now. Here’s a list of problems now:

  1. Dropping WiFi A LOT throughout day, 5 min on, then off, repeat
  2. Turning off WiFi, still couldn’work online using 5G
  3. Text and email notifications not working at all, banners nor sound
  4. When WiFi was working during day, I’d send email to myself to check, emails sat in OutBox until I waited 5-10 min then I’d go back to OutBox and push it through a second time. It would then go through

Very concerned I’m not getting important incoming emails.

I haven’t even checked yet if my photos have been messed up like others are reporting (which 17.5.1 was supposed to fix from previous update that caused photo issues)

My internet company is not having issues. My phone provider Verizon isn’t having issues.

This must be iOS huge mistakes. Nothing is related to each other, the only common denominator is 17.5.1

All of my issues stemmed from Screen time settings. the following steps solved most of my issues:

Disable screentime completely (bottom of hte screen)

Open content & Privacy restrictions, allowed apps & features - and allow Siri.

For some reason, Siri had been disabled, and disappeared from my Settings menus - which meant that nothing else worked (like CarPlay, etc...) this seems to have resolved things (for now)

Had this issue and quite a few more. After googling, chat with Apple, totally resetting phone-nothing worked. Ended up at Apple where the tech claimed it was NOT a software issue, but hardware. They basically replaced the whole inside of the phone under warranty, by 6 days.

Funny thing is when we got it back “fixed”, it was not updated to 17.5.1. I was unable to find a work around without a computer so I was forced to install it.

Phone still isn’t right.

Since the update my phone has basically stopped working! It reboots literally every couple of minutes and the back of it is very hot. Battery now drained.

Your phone has a hardware problem that will require service.

Make an appointment at the Apple Store or take the phone to an authorized Apple service shop.

You can find a list of authorized shops in your area using this link:

Issues with wifi, apps crashing more than normal, location services is a problem between me and my partner (shows no location found despite going through all the troubleshooting), app badges aren’t showing up until refreshing or restarting, App Store doesn’t show available updates until I manually go in and pull down refresh. 17.5 and 17.5.1 have been the most problematic updates for me so far

Hey! If you guys are having issues with the new update or anything at all on your iPhone or any Apple device you can report it! Either you have or can download the “Feedback” app and report ANY and EVERY single issue that you find on the new or existing update. Also please do this because the more reports of the same issue will bring it to attention and be (hopefully) fixed in the next update!

Updated the moment the update was available. Seemed fine. Then as the days went on it gradually became worse. Today has been the worse I’ve ever experienced.

  • wifi kicks out and I’m on 5G
  • While on calls automatically goes to LTE although notifications fail to arrive and only show up once I hang up.
  • service on dual sim is completely off, same carrier - primary line has full bars and secondary has one
  • phone gets super hot
  • battery does insanely fast, randomly
  • call quality has become horrible
  • carplay fails to connect often
  • keyboard becomes very laggy randomly

I guess the good news here is that a ton of people are having the same issue so finger crossed Apple fixes this on the next update. 😞

Troubleshooting iPhone Battery Heath Decline After iOS17 Update:

A. Downgrading the iOS:

Unfortunately, the iOS cannot be downgraded to a lower version. So, you only option, when it comes to restoring from an iPhone backup, is to restore from on that is of the same iOS version.

B. Report this to Apple...

Overeating iPhone and draining iPhone batteries are a well-known issues of the iOS17 update. Question is: "Just how many people have actually reported this to Apple? So, do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

happened to me, i can’t even play mlbb for a week now, and network error keep appearing during the matchmaking and couldn't enter the game. since the customer service of the game sucks, i had to contact the apple support about the problem. everything was smooth so i had to blame our internet provider for being a suck ( villar moments 🤡 ). but when i was at my cousin's house with different internet provider, i tried to network testing in mlbb. the ping turned into red (435ms) so now i know that the issues is really the ios 17.5.1 update

IOS 17.5.1 is absolutely shocking; how can it be an official release with so many bugs??

Missed notifications, or no notifications at all…

Constantly dropping Wifi, and no Apple; it’s not my ISP. iPad has zero issues, PS5 has zero issues, Samsung has zero issues, iMac has zero issues… Only issue is with 15 pro Max SINCE updating to 15.5.1. Sort it out. Yes. - done all the pointless resets etc, none of them cure the issue.

Issues I am experiencing with this update:

  1. General lagginess when using apps. Touch screen doesn't work, etc.
  2. Can no longer stream from Netflix.
  3. When streaming from Hulu or any music app, cannot connect to my AirPods.
  4. Tried connecting to my AirPods at the gym just to listen to my own music playlist to no avail.
  5. Keep getting a message about updating iOS on Apple Watch.

In an attempt to rectify these issues, I ensured ALL my apps were updated and restarted my phone several times (13 mini). I only updated to 17.5.1 because I downloaded an app that required the update... but now even THAT app won't work properly (very glitchy and restarts constantly).

REALLY annoyed by this and sent feedback to Apple about it already.

We have a 13Pro and a 15Pro and have already heard about the many issues of 17.5.1. Until there is a definite fix for all the issues, not connecting to wifi, dropping Bluetooth, unable to get calls, or notifications, this update does not work for our family. Our child is a type 1 diabetic. They use their phone as a medical device. It’s imperative that WiFi, Bluetooth, and notifications work flawlessly in order for us parents to get blood sugar numbers and for the closed loop system to work properly. We can’t even change the insulin pod without working WiFi or being able to connect through 5G or LTE. Because of this, we have turned off our auto updates until there’s a resolution.

The different bugs that 17.5.1 introduced are not just inconveniences, but could also affect those people who use their iPhones as more than just meme posters. Please fix soon!
