IOS 17.5.1 Problems

Phone was dandy until I did iOS 17.5.1 update last night. I just got off phone with Apple Technical Support, no solutions as of now. Here’s a list of problems now:

  1. Dropping WiFi A LOT throughout day, 5 min on, then off, repeat
  2. Turning off WiFi, still couldn’work online using 5G
  3. Text and email notifications not working at all, banners nor sound
  4. When WiFi was working during day, I’d send email to myself to check, emails sat in OutBox until I waited 5-10 min then I’d go back to OutBox and push it through a second time. It would then go through

Very concerned I’m not getting important incoming emails.

I haven’t even checked yet if my photos have been messed up like others are reporting (which 17.5.1 was supposed to fix from previous update that caused photo issues)

My internet company is not having issues. My phone provider Verizon isn’t having issues.

This must be iOS huge mistakes. Nothing is related to each other, the only common denominator is 17.5.1

Yep same here, although I’m also having touch screen issues.

I’m constantly having to reboot my phone so that it works again.

Wi-Fi is broken in 17.5.1. I am having the same issues on multiple different networks (also on multiple iPhones). Apple needs to fix this. Below is what happens:

  • Sometimes phone connects to Wi-Fi normally and there are no problems.
  • When you leave the network range and come back, sometimes it will not connect. It will appear that the device is connected, but you will be unable to use Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi symbol is missing from the phone.
  • If you click on that network on the phone, you will notice that the IP address is NOT something that would have been given from your router. i.e. Mine should always be 192.168.1.XXX, yet when it is in this state it will be something like 192.168.222.54 and the subnet will also be wrong (typically it will be 255.255.0.0 in this state).
  • Sometimes this can be fixed by toggling the "Private Wi-Fi Address" The only reason this works is because the phone will sometimes attempt to find a new router when you do this, and it will then ask the router for it's IP.

Something got broken in 17 where the iPhone is looking elsewhere for an IP address. Note that setting the IP to manual DOES NOT fix this, so something is inherently wrong when the phone is attempting to find the router.

We have a 13Pro and a 15Pro and have already heard about the many issues of 17.5.1. Until there is a definite fix for all the issues, not connecting to wifi, dropping Bluetooth, unable to get calls, or notifications, this update does not work for our family. Our child is a type 1 diabetic. They use their phone as a medical device. It’s imperative that WiFi, Bluetooth, and notifications work flawlessly in order for us parents to get blood sugar numbers and for the closed loop system to work properly. We can’t even change the insulin pod without working WiFi or being able to connect through 5G or LTE. Because of this, we have turned off our auto updates until there’s a resolution.

The different bugs that 17.5.1 introduced are not just inconveniences, but could also affect those people who use their iPhones as more than just meme posters. Please fix soon!

Anyone having problems with bluetooth and car stereo sound? Up until the OS update, I connected via Bluetooth to my car stereo and was able to play my library of Apple Music. After the update, the bluetooth connects and I can see Apple Music playing but no sound. Same issue with the Sirius XM app. Radio and regular Sirius XM works fine.

Same here!! My phone is crashing all of a sudden.. cuts on and then cuts off .. went from 40% to 10% back to 40 and then back to 10.. I go to my settings, my phone shuts off.. the volume levels keep going up and down regardless of them actually being turned all the way up.. my phone was fine until this update.. Apple needs to fix this ASAP.. we pay a lot for these phones!!

Iphone SE. Primarily touch screen problems - start typing a word, stops responding. Spent 10 minutes just trying to restart the phone as the screen would not respond.

Unacceptably poor performance! One would think there is adequate testing in place prior to release!

Submitted a bug report. I have not had an Apple brick before, but this is coming close to that.

17.5.1 is a disaster.

1 Erased favorites (safari)from phone, was able to retrieve shutting down and re starting

2 Can’t make calls to anyone in my contact list. Get call failed message. I can call random numbers/businesses that is all.

3 My playlists and artists on my phone are wiped out except for 7 or 8 artists and 22 songs. I had Hundreds of songs from at least 50 artists. All my playlists are gone 🤬

4 WiFi was an issue on and off, seems to have resolved.

I'm having the same issues.

  • WiFi is dropping in and out.
  • WiFi calling is sporadic. I live in an area with bad cell service and rely on the WiFi calling feature.
  • Having trouble sending messages to Android phones. Have to keep resending.

My wife and son are having the same issues in the same household since updating to 17.5.1. Did not have problems until the update.
