Make sure the software on your device is the latest compatible version available:

Eg: Check Settings > General > Software update to see if there's an update to install. If so, it is wise to back-up all the data on your device, before updating.

Apple Support have an article online that may help (eg: you can check you are not on mute):

Make and answer calls with AirPods Pro (all generations) - Apple Support

There is another discussion thread on a similar topic that may help you, if this not what you already tried:

ie: A Community Specialist provides the answer below which has helped others, so you may find it helpful too:

"As a start, try tapping Settings > Bluetooth, and then tap the "i" next to your AirPods. What do you have selected in the Microphone section? We recommend testing by setting it to Left and seeing how it works, and then setting it to Right and testing that as well."

Troubleshoot the AirPods' Volume:

A. Start with a Reset:

Go Here: How to Reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

B. Visit Apple Support links

C. Verify an App's Balance:

If using an App, note that apps have their own balance settings as well. That would overrule that set in the Mac. So, make sure that the balance is set in the middle on an app itself..

D. Also, Clear Out Earwax:

Go Here: How to clean your AirPods and EarPods - Apple Support

E. Using an App?:

Check and make sure that the balance on the app is not more or less towards one side.
