Messages frozen and crashes on iOS 17.5.1

Same issue on my iPhone 15 pro and wife’s iPhone. I am thinking to switch over to Android after being an iPhone fan since the beginning. I don’t need all the features but text and basic phone features have to work for me.

There has to be a solution to this issue! This is a big one! In addition to the messages not working, when I get a phone call, my watch doesn’t recognize that my phone has answered the call and will continue to ring until I hit decline on my watch. This is a mig mess up on this update. Just roll out the previous version as an update until this current version is fixed.

Same for me. First had the issue on my phone on Friday, then again today (Wednesday). Have had the same freeze on my iPad today. I’m in the middle of working with my 3 sisters to prepare for our father’s funeral. I don’t have the mental energy for this!

I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue. This is AWFUL! I also went to Apple Store and they have no idea how to fix. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and have never had any issues until now. I’ve tried factory resets, and hard resets. Only temporarily fixes it!

Same here... I've tried restarting which worked the first day, resetting which worked yesterday and today I tried restart, reset, log out and nothing makes any difference today which is very frustrating since messages are kind of important when you're trying to sell a house! Come on Apple do better by us and get this fixed asap!!

System locks up constantly forcing me to use a shortcut to trigger a shutdown or restart. Issue happened initially on CarPlay. No if I hit the General icon, it locks up and closes the app. Apple support are useless - try reinstalling all apps.. Yeah, that’s a waste of my time; they have zero diagnostic tools or common sense of fixing software issues caused by their firmware changes. No testing. Apple quality is abysmal.

This is not a permanent fix, issue occurs again after some time.

Same for people claiming you need to re-register iMessage to make it work. It is only coincidence those workarounds have a temporary effect.

Same issue here, both on my phone and my wife’s. I’m on a 15 pro, so it’s certainly not a hardware limitation or storage issue. Support was not helpful. They put me through the usual resets and reboots. The only way I’m able to view messages is on my laptop. Any luck resolving this?

There are many threads on the topic and I've tried various combinations of settings (see my Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/comments/1d3puny/1751_messages_app_lockshangscrashes/) but I have yet to find a perfect combination to prevents lockup/crashing of the settings and messages app.

I am having the same issue. My phone freezes all the time. If listening to a voice note it freezes up during play. And then speeds up once it resumed. Same issue with watching Instagram or YouTube videos. Sometimes it freezes when I’m trying to use an application. Also when I try to connect to a call I can’t hear them immediately and takes a while to connect to audio with by earbuds so I never catch the first few words. This all since I updated to this iOS.

Suddenly experiencing that when I open any app it freezes and I have to close and re open the app in order to respond to a message or for it to work and it’s non stop after the update of IOS 17.5.1 everything became glitchy please fix this Apple!!

This is getting worse and worse. Now even a third phone in the family is confronted with this issue.

Now all had to switch to WhatsApp. Was this the intent, Apple?

Is there any fix in the making Apple?

I am on 17.4.1 on iPad and 17.5.1 on iPhone and I am having freezes on iMessage as well on my iPhone iPhone 15 Pro Max and my iPad. this has been going on for more than a month,even Before updating the iPhone
