Messages frozen and crashes on iOS 17.5.1

Ever since updating to iOS 17.5.1 a few days ago both my and my daughters Messages app rarely works. Usually usually if you bring the app up, it’s just a blank black screen and all you can do is kill it or wait a little while and it’ll crash on its own. On the rare occasion you can actually use the app. It’ll only work for a couple minutes and then crash.

We have both reset all settings on our phones and restarted them many times. Nothing fixes it. Has anybody had this problem with iOS 17.5.1 and found a fix?

Having same issue, Apple support have no idea on how to fix this (both over phone and at Apple Store).

Wondering if it's related to using esim instead of physical sim.

Can't open up Settings/Messages as that also crashes.

My kids report today that the problem has been better for the last 24 hours or so. I wonder if Apple did something on their side without a client update?

Only worked temporarily for me. Problem has returned and has spread.

Having the same issue, restart, sign out of Apple ID, turn off, turn on...nothing is working. Pleas share solutions as you find them

It works for me 👍🏻 no more freezing but iMessage msgs are not working as if im not connected to internet it take while then i got failure to sent.

My messages seems to be working again now for last 24 hours. I cleared the unread messages on my Mac and now the iPhone is working.

I’m also having this issue since the software update. It improved a bit earlier today, but now messages are back to not functioning

turn off the focus in message settings not working. Back to frozen.

Same here my messages keeps showing a blank screen. If it does open and work it then freezes within a minute or so. Very very annoying and Apple needs to figure out how to fix this.

Ever since update to iOS 17.5.1 my messages are randomly failing delivery amongst some contacts and those same contacts cannot text message me either. Regardless of iPhone or Android users.
