It’s very very strange that the oldest iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence is the iPhone 15 Pro, but maybe because it has the oldest processor that can do a lot of work, the A17 Pro. Only iPads and Macs with M processors can have Apple Intelligence, such as the iPad Pro M4, M1 chip MacBooks, etc. Even though newly announced Apple software versions like iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS sequoia, etc are compatible with other devices, like iPad (9th generation), iPhone XS Max, etc

Every iPhone, iPad, and Mac that has an Apple Silicon processor and 8+ GB of RAM is scheduled to get the Apple Intelligence beta. Here I use "Apple Silicon" loosely to include both A-series chips and M-series chips, since both have the same basic machine code architecture, and Apple got M-series chips by scaling up A-series designs.

No Mac that lacks an Apple Silicon processor is scheduled to get the Apple Intelligence beta. Apple Silicon Macs only. 68K, PowerPC, and Intel Macs need not apply.

No iPhone, iPad, or Mac that has less than 8 GB of RAM is scheduled to get the Apple Intelligence beta. All Apple devices with M-series chips have at least 8 GB of RAM. But among those with A-series chips, only iPhone 15 Pros and iPad 15 Pro Maxes have 8 GB of RAM. Every other iPhone or iPad with an A-series chip has less.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max stand out because, for devices with A-series chips, they have an unusually large amount of RAM. As much as a base M3 MacBook Air, M3 iMac, or M2 Mac mini.

Currently AI is supported on the iOS 15 and 16 series. I’m sure it will be available on subsequent models, and I’m sure they won’t drop support for the 15 and 16 for many years. Apple generally provides full software updates for 5-7 years. For example, iPhone XR (2018), XS, SE 2nd or 3rd edition, iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and16 can update to iOS 18.x. My guess is that 18.x will be the end of the line for XR, XS, SE 2nd edition. All of the newer phones also support 5G networks.

I didn't realize we couldn't talk about that here but I'm glad since you know the details you know there is a list.

Katana-San is absolutely correct and if it seems new to you, then it may be important to review the agreement for using the beta to avoid any future problems:

Yes, the beta software is Apple confidential information. Don’t install the beta software on any systems you don’t directly control or that you share with others. Don’t blog, post screenshots, tweet, or publicly post information about the beta software, and don’t discuss the beta software with or demonstrate it to others who are not in the Apple Beta Software Program. If Apple has publicly disclosed technical information about the beta software, it is no longer considered confidential.

Apple Beta — FAQ

Nothing in the release version of iOS requires a waitlist and you will know when technical information has been released because you will see the corresponding Support Article that also includes the link to Contact Apple Support, which currently is not available with the beta software.

Hello again ~ Your post came across as argumentative and dismissive of what I know for a fact…this in particular “but I'm glad since you know the details you know there is a list” It means a great deal to me that in this forum we can politely discuss and even disagree. On that note perhaps we both just misunderstood each other. Take care.
