adapter for USB-C for older MacBook Pro without a USB-C port

I have an older MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) that doesn't have a USB-C port. I just bought an Apple Magic Mouse, but I cannot connect it to my computer because my model does not have the proper port. Is there a connector I can buy, or do I have to return the mouse?

Your computer has

  • Two Thunderbolt 2 ports, with Mini DisplayPort connectors, that can double as Mini DisplayPorts
  • Two USB-A (USB 3.0) ports

The Apple Magic Mouse comes with a Lightning (male) to USB-C (male) cable. To connect that cable to that Mac, you would need a USB-C (female) to USB-A (male) adapter that was rated to carry data. (Preferably at USB 3.0 or better speed, making the adapter potentially useful for connecting USB-C (USB) drives to the Mac.)

Another possibility would be to purchase an Apple Lightning to USB-A cable specifically for the mouse (and/or for older iPads and iPhones).
