SMS Messages are not being forwarded to my MacBook. Text Message forwarding is on

I am not receiving SMS messages from non iPhone users on my MacBook Air. Every other question has been met with the response to turn on text message forwarding from my iPhone, however, this is already on and the problem persists. I am receiving all iMessages on both devices. I have an iPhone 12 and a 2022 MacBook Air. I recently bought the MacBook refurbished and have had this issue since setting up the computer. Both devices are completely updated.

Text Message Forwarding doesn't just have to be turned on. The correct device has to be selected.

Try this. Sign out of iMessage on all of your devices. Sign back in on your iPhone. Once it is active, sign in on your Mac. Once that is complete, go back to the iPhone and go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding and make sure that the current MacBook is enabled. Test.
