ipadOS 16.7.8 can't be backup in iTunes 12.13.2.3

iPad 5th generation with iPadOS 16.7.8 can't be backup in iTunes version 12.13.2.3. The backup button in iTunes is grey.

How do you change from Automatic Backups to Manual PC iTunes shows Automatic and Manual choices on the Summary page but Automatic and its choices are fixed and unchangeable. Manual is greyed out and can't be chosen. I don't want to wait while ITunes backs up my iPhone every time I connect! I would rather have the choice of when I want to backup.

Back up Now button out On iTunes when I want to back up my iPhone to my PC, the Back up Now button is greyed out on my machine. Any advice?

Is the iPad unlocked?

Has the Trust message popped up and been accepted?

Is there enough storage space in the computer to accept the backup?
