I use snapchat to call with people often for long periods of time. Recently, my phone started ending the call when I pressed the power button instead of turning my phone off. The call can be minimized when this happens or not, doesn’t matter. This is extremely frustrating and I cannot figure out why it started doing this. Also, the screen will randomly turn off if anything goes near the camera.

Settings>accessibility>touch . Prevent lock to end call should be toggled on. This will put it back to normal. My phone just started doing this out of the blue and I’m not sure why. I’ll likely reset mine but it’s rather weird for the setting to just change without an update.

By "off" I assume you don't actually mean the phone is powering off, but rather the screen is locking. If that's the case, the screen is locking when something goes near the proximity sensor at the top of the screen. That is also normal behavior.
The power button is the correct way to end a call. It has never turned the phone off. If the phone is idle when you press it that will lock the screen, but not turn the phone off.
