Increased battery without charging?

lately Ive noticed a few strange things with the battery life on my iPhone 14 Plus.

First occurrence, I was scrolling Reddit and noticed my phone had 2% battery remaining. I told myself I wouldn’t plug in the charger, once the phone dies that’s how I know I’ve had enough Reddit for the day. But the phone stayed at 2% for another 45 minutes. I brushed it off because I figured I wasn’t pulling much energy on Reddit.

Second occurrence, today, 06/26, I was again scrolling and noticed my phone was again at 2%. I didn’t plug it in. I go get food and I’m gone approximately an hour. I comeback to my phone and the battery life is at 5%. So it went up 3%.

This doesn’t seem like a bug in the hardware. It’s feels like malware, spyware, ransomware, keylogger, Trojans and rootkit. Because that’s not normal behavior for a phone, old or new. It seems something wants me to think my phone is dead went it’s actually not.

What should I do? Factory reset?

Yes, it's Apple who wants you to think that. It's designed that way to specifically prevent you from completely draining the battery, which, as sberman and Bob Timmons have already explained, is bad for a lithium-ion battery. It's a safety feature, not something nefarious.
