Mac copying file constantly hung up halfway even for small files

during file backup process, copying a folder from one external drive to another is a nightmare. Copy stopped halfway for no good reasons. I had no problem with previous macOS but the new macOS Sonoma 14.5 does not like copying at all. I spent all day rebooting when shutting down my Mac mini but no avail.

That right there is likely the source of the problem.

Try connecting both drives directly to your Mac; if they work properly that way, then the hub is the problem. If it still doesn't work that way and one or both of the drives is a traditional HDD then they are probably drawing more power than your Mac can deliver. The only solution to that would be to get a power supply for each of the drives.

It would help a lot if you identify the exact make & model of both external drives.

Are all drives formatted as APFS or MacOS Extended case insensitive? Do the external drives have their own power supplies? Are the drives connected directly to the Mac or via a hub?
