JPEG images massively corrupted, all stripes no image - any ideas?

Hi all. I work with a couple of folders filled with thousands of jpeg files, and I've come across several images that have a recent "modified" date, but that have not been modified by a person. Instead of the original image, the file is either partially blank (gray) and partially striped, or is completely blank and white.

The files are hosted on a local network, and every computer accessing the network is seeing the same thing. Here's some info on the host computer:

Processor: 13.8 Ghz 8-core intel core i7

Memory: 16 GB 267 MHz DDR4

OS Ventura 13.6.6

I'd be very grateful for any ideas about what might be causing it, and how to recover the original images. A couple screenshots attached in case that helps. Thanks very much in advance!

Because Mac OS does not have the ability to modify file types unless a user intervenes and you have stated that is not happening. As mentioned, the issue is likely Adobe.

It will help us get a good idea of what is causing your problem if you provide a report of your system, that way we do not have to play 20 questions with you. Mac OS has no way of damaging your files. Your screen shot indicates the file was created July 2nd so just use your Time Machine backup to restore an earlier version of the file(s). Your information also indicates Photos 2020 was used to create the content, so I would STRONGLY recommend that you search on a Photoshop forum or contact Adobe for support on their product. This is NOT a Mac or Mac OS issue, it is an Adobe issue.

EtreCheck was developed by a very trusted member of these communities and is safe to download and use. As mentioned it does not show any personal information and simply tells us what has been installed and displays clues to issues. Feel free to ask on these forums if EtreCheck is safe, you will find it is.

Members of these communities have been using EtreCheck for many years now, however if you don't want to download and use it I totally understand and wish you luck finding a solution to your problem.

Thanks @rkaufmann87! The damage seems to be happening days or even weeks after the file has been opened either by Adobe or by a user in any other application. As the screenshots show, the stripy image lists Photoshop 2020 as the content creator, but the blank image says Apple Image Capture is the content creator. That being the case, why would Adobe, rather than the OS (or a hard disc issue?), be the culprit? Thanks for clarifying.
