Can't install eSIM on US bought iPhone 12 Pro Max

If you have not installed the eSim, there would be no "Vodafone" section in Settings ➜ Cellular.

There should be a simple "Add eSim" option though.

What happens when you tap on that?

If you see a Vodafone section, then either the eSim or a physical sim is present and active.

Just to verify, what is the model number for the iPhone in Settings ➜ General ➜ About ➜ Model. If you see a number starting with the letter A, tap it once to change it to the other model number, and post it here.

The local carrier might not be technically (or administratively) capable of “subscriber-driven eSIM provisioning”

Regardless of what is or isn’t displayed on the screen …

… a carrier should be able to manually provision an eSIM armed only w/ the IMEI2.

That's a north American model, so should support an eSim.

I attach a screen shot of the Cellular section with the Vodafone SIM in the phone. Should I take it out before trying to install an eSIM?

You should not need to.

The eSim option should be there whether there's a physical sim card inserted or not.

Are there any restrictions in place? A corporate Exchange account that may be restricting the use of an eSim somehow?
