When I read an email on my MacBook Pro, it disappears

When I read an email on my MacBook, it disappears. It is not every 'read' email, only random ones..it seems like it's the important ones. I don't know where they go to. I can find them if I search for the person it came from but when I try to save it to a folder it's not there. Please help. This is very frustrating. I do not have any emails blocked.

You can rebuild a mailbox if it is isolated issue...

Rebuild mailboxes in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

For problem accounts the go to way to sort things out is to delete the account(s) from the Mail.app, then add it back.

Remove email accounts in Mail on Mac

Add email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Add email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Note—

IMAP accounts stay on the server, so no local loss, when you re-sync

POP accounts download and remove from the server—therefor save your inbox/sent box if you want them

“On My Mac" is just that, local folders you created and moved mail into. So no loss
