Samsung TVs and Apple TV app - all streams freeze and requires Smarthub reset
On my Samsung TV (2023 Tizen OS) I have repeated intermittent fault with Apple TV not playing streamed episodes - it freezes playback with black screen, but you can see the thumbnails and the timeline of the video stream looks correct , although the video will fail to play - often just after the intro, and often for episodes that have previously played without issue a day before. It applies to all streamed video in Apple TV. No other streaming apps have a problem. It is not internet related.
To fix it it requires a Samsung TV Smarthub reset before the fault goes away. Videos will then play but after a couple of weeks the problem returns, often halfway through playing an episode. I think Samsung software auto updates may trigger this reoccuring fault.
1. Navigate to Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Reset Smart Hub.
2. Enter the PIN for your TV. Default is 0000.
3. After the smart hub reset, press Home and then select Setup.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to set the TV up. Which will require re-registering with Samsung and re-login of Apple TV.
Has anyone found the reason for this Samsung TV bug and a workround?
