Files app not showing any files on the phone or iCloud drive

I recently got an iPhone 15pro and Apple Watch for my wife. (I am an Android user, as was she. Although, she is a Mac user.) After the painful transfer of files and apps with the Move to iOS app, and installation of the ton of apps that didn't transfer, I am attempting to confirm that all files have migrated. However, the Files app shows zero files on the iPhone. None. Just one folder named Move to iOS, which is empty. Shouldn't it show all folders and files, like Finder does on a Mac, File Manager on a Windows PC, or especially, like Google's Files app for Android?

It also shows zero files on her iCloud drive, just two empty folders - Downloads and Shortcuts. But, confusingly, there is a warning message that her iCloud storage is full! So, obviously, there are 5GB of files and folders there. But, the Files app is not showing them.

Is there some hidden setting in the Files app or on the phone that will allow the Files app to actually show files?

It is normal to have the Files app not show anything. The purpose of the Files app is to store files that you want to use on another device. For example, since your wife has a Mac, anything you put into the Files app will be available on your wife's Mac on the iCloud Drive as long as the Apple ID is the same on both devices.

As for your iCloud already being full with the 5 GB data already, this would most likely be cause be Photos that were imported from her previous phone. There is a feature called iCloud Photos that will store the photos in iCloud and they will also be accessible on the Mac in the Photos app. Information about iCloud Photos is available here:

If you do not use iCloud Photos, then your photos are backed up to iCloud in your Backup file. In either case, a large amount of photos will consume iCloud storage space. You do have the option to backup the iPhone to the Mac instead of using iCloud.

Sorry to hear about your struggles with transferring your data. There is no File Manager or File structure that you can access on the iPhone. The documents for the apps are accessible from the app itself. For example, to view your Photos, you will use the Photos app where you can edit or delete the photos. There is no File Structure to delete those photos from outside the app. This is different from the Files app, which as detailed before is used to sync the files to other devices and uses iCloud storage space to do that. In the Files app, you can use a file structure by adding Folders, but this is just like what you would find by using an External Drive.

Please ask if you have any questions of data that was transferred and you are unable to find on your iPhone. Of course, all of your Contacts should have transferred over and those will show in the Contacts app. Any apps that you had on the Android phone that is also available on the Apple App Store should have also downloaded automatically.

I'm familiar with iCloud, and why it would be full. I was only using the fact it was full to point out the discrepancy of the Files app showing no files. It was especially confusing, as there's a tab called "Browse", which one would assume would enable one to be able to browse their files. (Crazy, huh.)

If the Files app is not used for viewing files, as one would expect an app called "Files" to be able to do, is there an actual file manager app that works like MacOS Finder, Windows File Explorer, or, as one might expect on a smartphone, Google's Files app for Android?

I would like to be able to easily view the folder hierarchy and the files therein, so as to confirm all files transferred properly.

FYI, all of the apps did not automatically download from the App Store. I had to download at least half of them manually, one at a time. The Move to iOS procedure also failed multiple times before finally working, and taking three hours, not including the hours wasted on the failed attempts. So, you'll excuse me if I don't trust the process, and feel the need to confirm the file migration.
