Using WD Easystore on IMac

The Easystore is formatted for Windows. I'm told to delete the WD software and format the drive for a MAC. But the WD software won't erase. Others have had this problem but I see no answers.

iPad, iPadOS 17

Spotlight or fsck may be trying to access it, if fsck check Activity Monitor & force quit, i Spotlight add it to the excluded drives.

Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?

Some drives do that without a cure, but perhaps you haven't tried the root of the drive...

How to format WD easystore for Mac?

  1. Launch Disk Utility from the Applications > Utilities folder.
  2. Click View > Show All Devices.
  3. Select the top left physical entry of your WD easystore drive and click Erase.
  4. Give it a name.
  5. Choose a proper format, MacOS Extended Journaled or APFS or ExFat depending on your needs...
  6. Keep the scheme GUID Partition Map.
  7. Click Erase.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I did as instructed and got the following message.

"Erase process has failed. Click Done to continue"

  1. When I chose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) it failed right away.

2.When I chose the Mac Os Extended (Case sensitive, journaled), it ran for 15-20 seconds, said "Erasing "WD easystore 2648 Media and creating Untitled" and then failed. I had given it a new name (EasyStoreOne)

3.Itried step two again and it ran for 30-40 seconds but with this message "The volme on disc 4 couldn't be unmounted because xxx is in use. 20947 (diskimagesiod). xxx was something I couldn't write fast enough to get down.

4.ran step 2 again with a different name. It said "Erasing "WD easystore 2648 Media and creating Briandisc" and then failed.

I'm guessing that when I downloaded the WD installation software, it started something that I need to stop. There's no WD items listed under ForceQuit.

Again, thanks. At least something happened. We're getting close.
