Unable to find 'Voice & Data' to be able to enable Volte and 4G in iPhone

I need to enable VOLTE to be able to use the phone with 4/5G when 3G is turned off in a matter of weeks - but when going into Mobile Date Options - it is supposed to show 'Data Roaming, Voice & Data and Low Data Mode' - but mine is only showing 'Data Roaming and Low Data Mode as well as Limit IP Address Tracking'.

I need to find 'Voice & Data' to be able to enable Volte and 4G

Any idea how I can do this? (I understand it SHOULD be there!) grrr

This also applies to a refurbished iPhone 11 I purchased in June 2024. There is no option to select VoLTE in mobile data and the phone will be redundant once 3G is turned off. Both Apple Support and Boost (Telstra Australia) have said that it is a regional issue that affects some phones in Australia - it may be because of where/how the phone was sourced. The only fix is to replace the phone with one that is VoLTE compatible. I am currently taking up the issue with the seller as the phone will no longer be fit for the particular purpose intended.

UPDATE: Yes, finally got it sorted with Telstra.

Send '3' as an SMS to 3498 and it will advise you if your phone will connect to 4 & 5G

My 'Mobile Data' in Settings would not show 'LTE' as an option to choose.

After doing lots of diagnostics, resetting the phone a few times - I then stopped & restarted the phone & suddenly, there it was!

VOLTE was showing on the top line along with battery strength etc. But then it disappeared again, altho sending '3' by SMS to 3498 said I WAS enabled .....

However - if you are on Home Wifi - I am pretty sure it doesn't show VOLTE.

So check, next time you are away from your home!

It took MANY hours of discussion with both Telstra and Apple to get it going!

It shouldn't have been that difficult.

This site has some good tips:

Talk to your phone carrier that is their feature.

For your interest, my iphone SE is made for the US Market (based on model no), which dropped 3g a while ago. Curious that it doesn't have VoLTE

I believe that even the iPhone SE (1st generation) supports voice over LTE.

However, there are many LTE bands. Your iPhone supports. lot of LTE bands, but it probably does not support all of them. If your carrier's network relies heavily on LTE bands that your iPhone does not support, you're not going to have good coverage with that carrier after they shut off 3G.

That's why you might need to check with your carrier as to whether their 4G cellular network supports your phone.

One would think it was simple... but no clear answer.

Apple advises the iphone SE has VoLTE technology, yet there is no setting to switch it on - ie. per the videos all over the internet: Go to Settings/Mobile/Mobile Data options - the iphone SE does not have a toggle for VoLTE (or a 3g or 4g toggle for that matter).

Telstra just says VoLTE needs to be switched on to ensure coverage. But per above there is no such 'switch'.

I'd just like to know if I need a new phone by 31 August? That this can't be clarified by Apple or Telstra is frustrating.

I have the iphone se 2 as well, same issue with no menu options for Volte, same messages from Telstra. How can I tell if it’s a US phone? I’m guessing the simplest way to see if the workaround works for my phone is to buy a vodaphone prepaid sim and try it?

Identify your iPhone model - Apple Support

For the iPhone SE (2nd generation), this support article says that the model numbers are "A2275 (Canada, United States), A2298 (China mainland), A2296 (other countries and regions)." You can match these against the model number that your iPhone displays in Settings.

Has anyone managed to resolve this? I purchased a refurbished iPhone SE 2020 from boost mobile (Australia) in 2022 and it appears to be a US model. I am now receiving the “this phone will no longer make or receive calls after 31 august “ message. I have no option to enable VoLTE.

my mother has the same phone purchased new from apple and has no issue. So it must be the band 28.

i guess I’ll just have to purchase a new phone?

boost mobile shouldn’t be selling US phones that won’t be compatible with the Telstra network, how ridiculous.

I totally agree.. I bought my iPhone SE 2020 from Kogan Australia, so why is Kogan selling American models, like boost !!

there’s nothing wrong with my phone, except this band 28..

I’m going to wait to see if my phone works, because the Telstra messages are a bit ambiguous, they say it may or may not work !! In some areas.. it’s not a definitely won’t work, like when we switch from analogue to digital..

but I think we should be reimbursed for the inconvenience this has caused .. time to speak to the telecommunications Omnib…

just saying ..
