Live Photo WON’T STAY OFF.

(This is eating data and storage forcing me to buy more storage.)

•Turned live photo off for photos on the camera. It still comes back on.

• Turned on preserve settings. It still comes back on.

Is this just another way of forcing unnecessary data usage? It surely looks that way. It’s rendering the camera useless when I can’t just take a regular still life photo.

Exactly the opposite, void_ranger9.

"Preserve Settings" needs to be on for Live Photos, so Photos will remember, when it is has been turned off.

The only problem is, that any accidental touching of the Live Button will turn it on again. There is no help for it.

@ void_ranger9: Try to hold the iPhone in a way, where you do not touch the Live button accidentally, or use a different Camera.app, that will give you you more control.

This has been reported before, but I cannot confirm on either of my phones. The correct procedure to turn off Live Photos is:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Camera > Preserve Settings.
  3. Make sure that the switch next to Live Photo is turned on.

Take and edit Live Photos - Apple Support

There are 2 additional steps to take if you still experience the problem:

  • Force Restart - This may take a couple of attempts to get the sequence and speed of the key presses correct and the last step of holding the side button until the Apple logo appears could take up to 20 seconds. Ignore anything else on the screen during that time. Try the steps again to turn off Live Photos.

Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (AU)

  • Reset Settings - This will not wipe your phone unless you choose the Erase All Contents. The option you want to choose is Reset All Settings. Even though it says it does not affect your data on the phone, I would still want to have a backup. This will reset your network settings and also remove Apple Pay cards.
