Can live location showing in my FindMy be wrong at times?

Hi, I need some help please. My partner and I have each others locations on our phones and use it through Find my, yesterday his location showed him Live, 7 miles from where he swore he was. I watched his live location move around etc until he was home. He’s in a small town a couple of states away and I want to know how accurate it all is. This isn’t about infidelity or anything like that, I’m curious if I was able to watch him move from A to B as I spoke to him but he swears up and down that it was wrong- could he be right? I know these things aren’t fool proof but would it be so wildly inaccurate that it would show him seemingly in a whole different place or what? Like I said, I was able to watch him in real time move across the map- no giant leaps across it, if anything small slight ones as the app kept up with him. Thank you
