MacBook Air can't locate Clipboard

I have spent over an hour trying to find this. I am not computer literate but can read and follow instructions. Under EDIT where Show Clipboard should be is everything else but not Show Clipboard. I am very frustrated. I know it's lurking somewhere but Show Clipboard is just missing. Can it be restored to Edit or was it just never there? HELP! I obviously have a tiny brain.
