Reinstall macOS not working
I used command + R to start. When I choose reinstall macOS and agree to terms, it freezes on the “select the disk where you want to install macOS.” There is no disk to choose.

The startup disk was probably reformatted to APFS, which the (presumably older) Recovery version being invoked does not recognize.
Refer to Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support
Select the View menu > Show All Devices. Then, you need to select the internal storage device. "Device" in this context means a hardware component with an immutable name such as "APPLE SSD... MEDIA". Erase that device, then quit Disk Utility to return to the Utilities window. The disk should then be visible.

Thank you. I was stumped and that worked.
👍
Apple doesn't explain it very well.
