I didn’t rent any movie, eg Trap

I got email saying I rented the movie “Trap”. I didn’t. I believe it was not a security breach. I just changed my Apple TV device and was watching on Prime app on Samsung TV. Suddenly Apple TV broke in and I may have touched the wrong button and accidentally rented a movie I Hate Apple TV content and would never have rented a movie—don’t even have subscription to Apple TV. The new TV device barged into my Prime app on Samsung TV!

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 17

As purchases require authorization, this shouldn’t happen accidentally.

Personally, I think it unwise to disable the requirement for purchase authorization, precisely for the accidental purchase reason.

M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Trap’ (2024) is available through Prime as well as in the Apple TV app. See your purchase history for the reference. The Apple TV app wouldn’t “break in” suddenly, that is not how any of this works.

AFAIK, ‘Trap’ is still on pre-order at this time, so is not paid for yet, and can be canceled without consequence, although the exact date may differ by country or region. Or it might notify you at release time, regardless of what you were browsing, if previously purchased as a pre-order, although not from a different app.

You may request a refund for unintended or accidental purchases, if they don’t happen too often, for purchases through Apple. Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support. Not sure if that can include Prime purchases. I thought Prime in-app purchases on Apple devices could only happen when so configured through Prime (website), on the default Prime payment method.

Saying you hate Apple TV is saying you hate pretty much any movie ever made as the general Apple TV app includes content from every conceivable studio like WB, Paramount, Universal, Disney, etc..., much like Amazon Prime does.

If you are referring to Apple's streaming service, that is Apple TV+ (note the plus) and Trap is not directly related to it.

Apple TV+ content cannot even be rented, it requires an active subscription.

Also, if you hate the Apple TV app so much why do you keep it installed on your TV?

Instead of flinging accusations at things, it may be better to understand how things worked and find out exactly what happened. As mentioned by Urquhart previously, Apple TV cannot simply barge in.

Something more had to happen for you to somehow move to the Apple TV app and rent a movie. It can't just happen in a single accidental click or tap.
